“Hush Your Mouth” Apple Pie Colada

It’s no mystery that I don’t like dessert. After 12 years of marriage, I’m just starting to bake more this year. However, there is one dessert in the world that I can never get enough and I wish I could make. That is apple pie! Of course, it has to be served hot with vanilla ice cream to make it worthwhile too. That’s just the way I like it.

When family is visiting it’s much easier to get in all my apple pie cravings. There is plenty to share so I don’t have to take on the burden of all those extra calories by myself. Last week, I had a house full of family and was stuck with some apple leftovers. I could eat another slice. Or I could get busy in the kitchen and make an original recipe. That’s more of my thing lately. Plus, I get to style the area and take pictures. That’s exactly what I did.

During the winter, we buy Chila® ‘Orchata and keep it in the freezer. If you have not tried ‘Orchata, then you’re missing out. Some people like egg nog during the fall/winter months. Thanks to my Dad and Step-mom, we like this cinnamon cream rum. We’ve even told other people about it since then and they love it as well. It’s perfect to add to coffee, cocktails, and smooth enough all by itself. So I had some leftover ‘Orchata and knew that I had to include it with the apple pie somehow.

I got out some mason jar mugs and got to work. With vanilla ice cream as a base, I blended in a few ounces of ‘Orchata with ice, in my blender. It looked like a pinã colada at this point. Except this creamy base is laced with cinnamon. I taste-tested the frozen base and knew I was on the right track. Next, I lined the cups with caramel sauce, cut-up a pecan praline candy, and fresh mint for garnish.

The “icing on the drink” is actually a slice of apple pie. I wasn’t sure if it would fit or even look right. But I figured it would at least taste good so I’d be stuck drinking an ugly, yet tasty drink. But after I poured in the frozen base, I slid a slice of apple pie right into the top of the cup. I added the garnish and a drizzle of caramel sauce. It worked!

“Hush Your Mouth” Apple Pie Colada

  • 4 ounces of ‘Orchata Cinnamon Cream Rum
  • 2 cups of Ice Cream
  • 2 slices of Apple Pie
  • Caramel sauce
  • Pecan Praline candy
  • Mint

Line your cup with caramel sauce. Add half of frozen cinnamon rum mixture to cup.  Very carefully, slide 1 slice of apple pie into cup and on top of cream mixture. Drizzle drink with caramel sauce. Use the pecan candy pieces and mint to garnish. This recipe makes 2 servings.

This drink will have you saying…

Hush your mouth!

If you’re calorie-conscious, I’d recommend sharing with a friend. Otherwise, if you’re like me and don’t eat many sweets…hush your mouth and enjoy! I’ll be sure to always enjoy my apple pie leftovers from here on out. How about you?

What’s your favorite part of this apple pie colada? The ‘Orchata frozen base or the pecan praline crumbles on top? Let me know in the comments below. Don’t forget to pin it for later!
