Today, I’m sharing how to make your own homemade tortilla chips. It’s so easy, you’ll slap yourself for not doing it sooner. Beware, the chips are very addicting and seem to disappear quickly.
The best way to cook tortilla chips is by frying them in vegetable oil. Nowadays, I cook almost everything in olive oil, but these chips taste 10X better in regular vegetable oil. It makes them so crispy and perfect. However, it’s not something that you’ll cook every week so you can make an allowance this time.
Corn Tortillas Cut in Triangles
You will need to fry the chips in batches so that your skillet is not overcrowded. It will take 4-5 batches to fry about 40-50 chips. Use tongs to turn the chips as they start frying. You want the overall color of the chips to be light brown, but still crispy. Line a big bowl or sheet pain with paper towels to absorb the excess oil.
Don’t forget to sprinkle the chips with salt while they are still hot. While they are cooling the salt will stick and add a ton of flavor to your own homemade tortilla chips. Once you’re all done cooking them you can add them to a bamboo chip bowl like mine. If you’re looking for some delicious salsa to have with your chips, give 2 Sisters Salsa Company a try. There salsa is the best salsa I’ve ever had – straight out the jar! They have 3 different flavors – Cajun, Fiesta, and Jalapeño. The fiesta blend is our favorite.

Heat oil on medium to medium high. Cut 10-15 corn tortillas into triangles. If the heat is high, the chips will cook quickly. Be sure to have your tongs ready to turn them as they start to fry. When the chips turn light brown remove them quickly from the oil. Place on lined sheet pain or chip bowl. Sprinkle with salt, Repeat until all chips are fried. Enjoy with salsa!
