One Room Challenge: Week 3

It’s here. It’s here! Week three of the design challenge is here. I’ve been officially working on my master bedroom for three weeks, meaning we are halfway done! Or halfway not done. I’m definitely behind schedule and that’s got my nerves really bad. Plus, I was sick this week so that has slowed my productivity down a lot. Needless to say, my stomach has been in knots most of the week. Thankfully, I am still making some progress.

Over the weekend, I picked up the last of my plywood boards for my shiplap accent wall. At my local Lowe’s, Mr.Clifton has been helping me with all my plywood needs. When I bought the wood for my headboard he helped me load it on my cart and he has always done a nice job ripping my boards. The accent wall in my bedroom is taking longer than I expected but it’s so necessary. I’m using this method to complete the wall.

In addition to the boards, I picked up the paint for the wall. Originally, I planned that the wall would be a dark gray or maybe even black. I just knew that I didn’t want a white wall. I love the shiplap look but wanted to do something more dramatic with it this time. After samples, I decided on a color called Newburg Green. It really takes on a blue tone though. When I saw it on the wall along with my fabric sample from Ashley Lasseignie, I knew it was the one. The blue in the fabric and the blue tone the wall color go together so well. The wall will be finished this weekend and then I can move on to other things I have planned in the room.

The great news is that headboard is 95% done and I’m super excited about that. It took me about 3 hours to complete it. There will be a full tutorial on the project on reveal day too so stick around for how I exactly did it.  Now, I just need to hide my upholstery work with some kind of fabric and determine if I’ll add nailhead trim or not. I’m not sure if I need the details from the nailhead or not. Anyways, I love the way headboard turned out but you won’t see the whole thing until reveal day. But, here’s a sneak peek…

Getting the headboard ready was just the creative push I needed to keep moving in this challenge. I have a lot of work ahead and some big decisions to make in the space. But, I feel like I’ve made more progress in the space in the last 3 weeks than I have in the last 7 years. I’ll take that!

Have you been keeping up with the other ORC guest participants? I must say that it’s so encouraging to work alongside others in the challenge. It keeps you going. Check them out here! See you next Thursday for big updates!!!
