We had a wonderful time visiting the town Disney built – Celebration, Florida. The highlight of the trip was exploring the city on bikes. Here is why you may want to rent a bike in Celebration Florida too.
Celebration Bike Rental is located right behind Bohemian Hotel Celebration in Celebration, Florida. We had a wonderful time lodging at the hotel and we were so excited that we could explore the city on bikes. There are walking/bike trails all around Celebration. Locals, as well as, visitors ride bicycles around the city for leisure and exercise. Let me be clear though. I haven’t rode a bike in at least 15 years! So, I was a little nervous. I mean, “Can I still ride a bike?”
Before we took off, Sophie gave us a map and explained the entire 7 mile trail. She also told us what we would see as we would pass landmarks like Lake Evalyn, Celebration Avenue, and more. This was super helpful! Thanks Sophie for all the knowledge and for the extra cold water for our trip.
Our bikes came with baskets so I stowed my camera, wristlet, and water there. Brandon and I both got on our bikes and took off. Even after 15 years, it wasn’t hard at all to get acquainted riding a bike again. Very quickly, I was so excited that we had rented bikes! Though it was warm, it was much more cooler having the fresh air in your face over walking or being in the car. Because there were people walking on the trails or riding bikes we didn’t ride beside each other. One of us was always ahead of the other, unless we stopped to take pictures or look at the map.
We looked at the map a lot because it is a little confusing getting around on a bike, in a city you’ve never been to. One time a really nice man, Leonard, who was on a motorized wheelchair, stopped and showed us exactly where we needed to go. That’s the one thing we noticed on this trip. Everyone is super nice and speaks to you! It seems as though the entire town of Celebration is welcoming of tourists and we loved that feeling. There were even teenage boys who were fishing that spoke to us as we rode by. How awesome is that?! I thought it was remarkable.
The most remarkable part of the bike ride was all the beautiful trails. Celebration was developed by Disney and you can tell they carefully crafted walking/bike trails. We saw bunnies, birds, and lizards. That made us think of the kids. Even the squirrels were extra-friendly too. The scenery made you feel like you were tucked away on some observation land. Somehow it was relaxing to ride bikes and I didn’t think that was possible. I thought I’d be miserable. Boy, was I wrong!
A few times we rode off the beaten path and went through neighborhoods. We saw a ton of variety of homes. There were apartments, town-homes, and even estate homes. One time we sat down on a bench to check-in for our flight back to New Orleans and something caught our attention. For a Saturday, it was so quiet! While we were seated, we didn’t hear anyone or see anyone! That was a little weird but we’re sure there is an explanation. It’s just quiet…enjoy it!
It started to rain for a little while so we took cover by having lunch at Columbia. We had great-tasting, authentic Spanish food and by the time we finished the rain had stopped. Afterwards, we returned our bikes. At that point, Sophie was gone and another guy was in charge. He offered to give us “ice cold” waters and we took him up on that. We took more pictures of the rental area, which is right behind the Bohemian Hotel Celebration, and walked back to our hotel. When we got back to our room I noticed I left my phone in the basket of my bike. We called the number on our map and they said they would hold it for me. Thankfully, it’s just walking distance so that was not a problem.
Celebration Bike Rental also offers private tours and this would be a nice option if you weren’t able to ride bikes. The private tour vehicle is super-precious and I had to get pictures of it. If you’re visiting Celebration Florida, you have to ride bikes! This is a must-do and you won’t be disappointed! It’s something that Brandon and I can say we did together. Now we’re discussing buying bikes for the family!
